M.S. Course Requirements Probationary Students
For students who do not have a bachelor's degree in computer science
or a closely related discipline, we allow admission to the MS program on
a probationary basis. Each application for such an admission will be reviewed
separately by the Graduate Committee. The assumption is that students have
at least one programming course, preferably using Java, and will follow the course plan below.

After the first year of courses have been completed the MS Graduate
Committee will review the student's record and recommend or deny continued
enrollment in the CS program. A student must get at least a B in each course
and maintain an average of an AB across all courses to be considered for
enrollment past the probationary period. If the student is recommended
for continued enrollment, the probationary period is considered over .
A * denotes courses that do not count towards your degree but
are required for background material. It may be possible to waive some
of the CS4xxx background requirements, but this requires instructor approval.
This schedule of courses assumes the courswork option will be followed.
If the student chooses the thesis or project option, appropriate adjustments
will be made.
Funding
While on probation, the student will likely not be eligible for funding
from the department. After getting off probation, the student will be considered
for competetive department funding with all other MS students. Finally,
the student may obtain research or outside funding for any portion of the
three years (including the probationary period).
