What is Computer Systems Science
The degree in Computer Systems Science prepares students to design, develop, and maintain modern computing systems. Whereas the degree in Software Engineering focuses on the development of software applications, the Computer Systems Science degree focuses on identifying and maintaining the composition of hardware and software required by end-users' applications.
The goal of this curriculum is to provide students with the practical and theoretical foundation required to design, develop, and maintain computer systems, not only today, but well into the future. Hence the program is deeper than simple certification on one or two of today?s software packages, and instead emphasizes hardware and software design principles. Graduates of this degree program are prepared to immediately step into advanced degree programs in Computer Science.
Courses uniquely required by the Computer Systems Science degree program (but available to all students) include Computer System Administration, Systems Programming, Computer Networking, Computer and Network Security, and Performance Analysis.
