The Raynox RT5264P Adapter Tube

The Raynox RT5264P Adapter Tube

Raynox made a number of adapters for various cameras. Click here for the details. The one for Panasonic FZ-10 and FZ-20 is the RT5264P, from a female 64mm thread (the camera end) to a female 52mm thread (for converters and filters). This Raynox RT5264P is a very well-made and light adapter tube. The left image below shows its front, narrower (for 52mm thread) end, and the right one has the rear 64mm end. It seems two versions of the RT5264P are available. The other version, which is not shown here, has a slightly smaller top (i.e., the 52mm end); however, the functionality is exactly the same.

Like other tubes, when the adapter tube is mounted on a powered off FZ-10, the lens is deeply recessed as shown in the left image below. When the camera is powered on, the camera lens extends to right below the filter/lens thread of the adapter tube (below right). As a result, a mounted converter or filter can be very close to the camera lens. Because the camera lens does not extend while zooming, one can use a 52mm lens cap and/or protection filter permanently on the adapter tube. The thread size of 52mm is a very popular one.

The first image below shows a Nikon #4T +2.9 close-up lens on a Raynox RT5264P adapter tube. The Nikon #4T has a 52mm thread and no step-ring is required. With step-up and step-down rings, one can mount many converter lenses. The second image below shows an Olympus WCON-07 0.7X wide angle converter on a Raynox RT5264P adapter tube. Since the WCON-07 has a 55mm thread, a 52-55mm step-up ring is needed. The third image below shows a Sony VCL HGD1758 1.7X teleconverter on a Raynox RT5264P adapter tube. Again, since the Sony 1.7X has a 58mm thread, a 52-58mm step-up ring is required. The right image below shows a Minolta ACW-100 0.8X wide angle converter on a Raynox RT5264P adapter tube. Since the ACW-100 has a 49mm thread, a 52-49mm step-down ring is needed. It is very important to remind you that always buy a thin step-ring if this Raynox RT5264P adapter is used with a wide angle converter lens. For example, a thin step-down ring will not cause vignetting even with the 49mm threaded Minolta ACW-100 wide angle converter. However, if a thicker 52-55mm step-up ring is used for mounting a WCON-07, a slight vignetting may be visible at corners. Most general brand step rings are thicker than named ones.
