The Rekhi 118 machines all redirect any file saves to server \\bigdog\Redirections$\[username]\

But eclipse will only run the emulator on local C, so when you use the eclipse avd manager to create the avd, they are on \\bigdog\Redirections$\[username]\. Choosing to run will do nothing, there will be no error, there will just be no emulator. TO fix, using file explorer, navigate to \\bigdog\Redirections$\[username]\.android\avd, copy the directories for any avd's you created in eclipse avd manager

Paste avd directories into C:\Users\[username]\.android\avd

COMMON PROLEMS:

PROBLEM DELETE:

if right click on project in eclipse to delete, will not complete the delete because cannot remove .metadata from \\bigdog.

SOLUTION:

Can reset permissions temporarily on \\bigdog to allow you to delete inside your own username. You may find that the change will not persist, due to the server setup, but it will stay while that explorer is open.

to get to \\bigdog directory: use file explorer, select network | \\bigdog\Redirections$\[username]\

then select directory .android

right click | properties | security tab

if your username is not on the list, click edit button

select add button

type your username, then ok button

while your username is still gray highlighted in upper box, select checkbox for allow “full control” in lower box

click apply button, then ok button

Now you have permissions over \\bigdog\Redirections$\[username]hcking\.android and eclipse will delete projects in default workspace: \\bigdog\Redirections$\[username]\workspace

PROBLEM EMULATOR:

android emulator will not run and gives no message regarding status of run or not run in console view of eclipse

SOLUTION:

need to copy the avd's you made into local because eclipse will only look on local to run the emulator (a flaw in the android plugin not accepting environment variables for the redirect to the server \\bigdog).

Using file explorer, navigate to \\bigdog\Redirections$\[username]\.android\avd, copy the directories for any avd's you created in eclipse avd manager

Paste avd directories into C:\Users\[username]\.android\avd

PROBLEM EXIT:

Exit eclipse and get “could not save workspace” error

SOLUTION:

the workspace is on \\bigdog by default and \\bigdog doesn't allow you to have permission unless you do the change above for “PROBLEM DELETE”. If you are working locally in workspace c:\users\[username] then you should not get this problem

PROBLEM LAUNCH
try to run your android app and you get an error that cannot launch configuration

SOLUTION:

make sure you have all the project properties correctly completed, including

PROBLEM NO SDK

in eclipse, open window | preferences

select android on left, on right browse to C:\Program Files\android-sdk-windows

click ok

click apply

now see the sdk choices populating the lower right window

PROBLEM PROPERTIES

in eclipse problem view: “Project has no default.properties file! Edit the project properties to set one”

not sure, just monkey around with it
